This Bokashi – Japanese for fermented – composting system utilizes the fermentation process to break down food scraps and uses live microbes, enzymes, trace minerals and vitamins to break down the waste into nutrient rich plant food that can be used in the garden within two weeks.

The Bokashi food waste recycling system includes two five-gallon buckets (one to be used for filling with food while the other is maturing), two flexible translucent lids and one five-pound bag of EM Bokashi organic rice bran, the fermenting agent.

The system priced at $36.99, works with all food substances including fruit peels, vegetables, and meat, dairy, bread, tea bags and coffee grinds and takes two weeks for fermenting the food scraps, following which the food waste is buried in the soil, where it converts into organic plant food.

TeraGanix CEO and president Patrick Smyth said that the company is excited to bring this effective and affordable food waste recycling solution to the market.
