The company has already been operating a gas and steam combined power plant with a capacity of 800MW in Knapsack since 2007.

Statkraft has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Siemens for the planned Knapsack II power plant.

The EPC contract contains regulations for the supply and the construction of the plant through Siemens if the building permit is granted and construction finally decided.

Statkraft executive vice president of market operations and IT Asbjorn Grundt said that this agreement with Siemens is a major contractual step on the way to the final go.

To supply the new power plant, a 13km long gas pipeline has to be installed, which will allow a connection to the already existing high pressure pipeline ‘Stolberg-Porz’ of E.ON gas transportation.

The power produced at Knapsack II will be fed into the high voltage grid of Amprion through an underground cable near the power plant.
