Malaysia-based TENAGA Nasional, engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, has completed rehabilitating the Tuanku Jaafar Power Station in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan. The power station comprises two new gas-fired combined cycle power units, with a capacity of 750 megawatts (MW) each.

The project, commenced in 2002, was completed at total cost of RM4.2 billion under two phases. Of the total cost, RM3.4 billion was spent for construction and generation system, and the remaining RM800 million was spent for transmission system, said Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, president and chief executive officer of TENAGA Nasional.

The power plant, with a combined capacity of 1,500MW, would supply power to approximately 3.2 million households in Peninsular Malaysia, with 56% efficiency rate.

According to Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), the company under a special soft loan package received a total of 102.9 billion yen for the project. The company received 49.1 billion yen for the first phase, called PD1 which was completed in 2005. The remaining 53.8 billion yen loan was sanctioned for the second phase or PD2.
