Russia-based Power Machines has commenced modernization work at Kegums-2 hydropower plant in Latvia.

The work is part of a contract signed by Power Machines and Latvenergo in February 2014, to upgrade three hydropower units at the Kegum-2 plant.

Power Machines will supply three 77.8MW hydropower turbines with automated control systems (ACS).

The company will also undertake, commissioning works and acceptance testing of the hydropower units.

Installation of the equipment is scheduled to commence later this year with plans to commission renovated units in between 2016 and 2018.

In 2013, Power Machines was selected by Latvenergo to upgrade units 1 and 3 at the Plavinu power plant in Latvia. Planned for commissioning by 2017, each of the upgraded unit will produce 98MW from the previous 85MW.
