Ikea has commenced operations on the solar energy system installed at its store in the US state of California.

Ikea placed the 252kW solar power system, which is developed with about 1,120 panels, on the 30,000sq ft array in San Diego.

The company contracted with Gloria Solar for the development, design and installation of this customized solar power system.

Ikea San Diego’s program will produce about 366,400kWh of clean electricity annually, the equivalent of reducing 290 tons of carbon dioxide, eliminating the emissions of 50 cars or powering 32 homes yearly.

The company said the investment to purchase its solar photovoltaic energy system with Gloria Solar modules, and to install and operate it atop the San Diego store it owns, will lower the carbon intensity of the electrical grid.
