Chinese utility Huaneng Power International has announced that China's national development and reform commission has approved the construction of the expansion project at the company's Huaneng Rizhao power plant.

<p>Phase II of the plant will involve the construction of two 600MW domestic supercritical coal-fired generating units. Huaneng Power International said that the project will concurrently install seawater desulphurization facilities and high-performance electrostatic precipitators. <br /><br />In addition, the utility said that it will install flue-gas continuous emission monitoring systems and that various emission indices at the power plant will satisfy China&#0039;s environmental protection requirements.<br /><br />Huaneng Power International has estimated the total investment in the project to be approximately RMB4.4 billion, of which 20% is equity capital to be funded by the company, with the remaining amount to be funded by bank loans.<br /><br />Huaneng Power International, which is currently the largest power producer listed in China, has a total generating capacity of 28,187MW on an equity basis and a total controlling generation capacity of 32,224MW.</p>
