The UK government has given consent to BP Energy to build a gas-fired combined heat and power station (CHP) at the Jaguar site in Halewood. The proposed 70 megawatt stations will supply the heat and electricity needs of the Jaguar works at Halewood.

Planning permission for the station was granted subject to 51 conditions agreed with Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council.

Energy Minister Peter Hain said the decision demonstrates the government’s continuing commitment to promoting CHP, wherever practicable, and its commitment to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases to fulfil promises made at Kyoto.
