The Swedish arm of Germany’s Eon has begun a US$2.7M upgrade at its Bjurfors lower hydro station at the Umealven river in northern Sweden.

The programme will see a total renovation of one of the three turbines and generator units at the 78MW facility. The plant is scheduled to resume operations in October.

The Bjurfors lower power plant, which began operations in 1959, has a normal annual output of some 350GWh.
