Dutch energy company Eneco, along with its partner Mitsubishi, has commissioned the 129MW Luchterduinen wind farm in the Netherlands.
Located off the coast of Zandvoort and Noordwijk, the wind farm saw an investment of around €450m.
The wind farm employs 43 wind turbines supplied by Vestas and it will generate clean energy that will be enough to power around close to 150,000 households.
It occupies an area of 25km2 off the Dutch coast at water depth ranging between 18m to 24m.
During the construction phase, around 560 employees of Mitsubishi, Eneco, Ecofys, Van Oord, Vestas, Joulz, TenneT and several consultancy firms were involved in the project.
The country’s offshore wind power capacity increases by 56% with the addition of Luchterduinen wind farm.
Besides the Luchterduinen wind farm, the Dutch part of the North Sea also has two other wind farms including 108MW Egmond aan Zee and 120MW Princess Amalia Wind Farm both of which were completed in 2008.
Eneco and Mitsubishi have closed an agreement in 2013 under which the latter owns a 50% stake in the Luchterduinen wind farm.
In May this year, Luchterduinen offshore wind farm started generating first energy followed by a a 240-hour test of the first set of installed turbines at the facility.
