ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik of Germany has been awarded a contract for the supply of two cable cranes for the construction of the Karun IV dam in Iran.
Located on the Karun river in between the cities of Esfahan and Ahwaz, the dam is to be constructed in a V-shaped valley with both flanks reaching up to an elevation of more than 1100m asl.
Gorge walls have slopes of more than 45°. The dam has a height of 230m with a total concrete volume of around 1.7Mm3.
The cable cranes are to transport the concrete for the construction of the dam, carry out excavating work, and to transport construction equipment or other individual heavy loads.
