MAN Diesel & Turbo and Hyundai Engineering have completed the extension of a power plant in Pakistan for their customer Attock Refinery Ltd. The plant, located northeast of Ra ¯ walpindi, burns heavy fuel oil and supplies electricity to a refinery.

Three MAN 14V32/40 gensets generate 18 MWe for the processes in the refinery plant. Hyundai, as the EPC (engineering, procurement, construction) service provider, was responsible for the construction of the plant whilst MAN took on design and delivery of the engines and accessories, as well as the training of the operators.

Ra ¯ walpindi is situated in the Punjab region, only a few kilometres southwest of the capital city, Islamabad. Together, the two cities comprise one of the country’s largest industrial centres. Also located in Ra ¯ walpindi is the headquarters of the Attock group, one of the most important businesses within the oil and gas industry in Pakistan.

“With an installed capacity of more than 700 MW, [we consider] Pakistan [to be] an important power plant market” said Alexander Stoeckler, senior vice president and global head of sales for the Power Plants sector at MAN Diesel & Turbo. “We are experienced and established both in the captive power applications sector – as here for the customer ARL – and in public power supply and the operation of power plants in the area.”
