Following the partnership initiated last year to bring 1.5 kV solar inverter technology to Japan, GE says it has installed the first unit of two LV5 1 MW inverters in a Looop Co. solar power plant in Ibaragi prefecture and that the inverter is operating well.

The successful commercial operation of the unit marks the entry of 1.5 kV PV into Japan’s solar market.

The LV5 inverter supplied by GE’s Power Conversion business can provide a number of benefits compared with less-efficient, previous generation, 1 kV, inverters. These include “reduced costs associated with infrastructure, deployment and operation expenditures, which can lead to up to a 3% lower system cost and up to 15% less in maintenance costs”, says GE.
