Perenti’s underground mining subsidiary Barminco secured a contract extension with Gold Fields to continue its operations at the Agnew Gold Mine in Western Australia.
The agreement, valued at approximately A$500m ($320m), ensures Barminco’s involvement in underground mining activities at Agnew for an additional three years, with an option to extend for another year.
Located near Leinster, Western Australia, the Agnew Gold Mine comprises multiple underground operations. Barminco has been a key service provider at this site since 2010 and employs over 300 personnel there.
The renewed contract, effective from 1 January 2025, encompasses a range of services, including underground development, production, and other related mining activities.
Perenti managing director and CEO Mark Norwell said: “We are very pleased to be extending our relationship with Gold Fields at the Agnew Gold Mine. Gold Fields is one of our most longstanding and valued clients, with history of more than 30 years working alongside the various Perenti businesses.
“Our Australian operations are important for Barminco to deliver enduring value and certainty for our clients and shareholders. Maintaining long-term contracts with high-calibre clients such as Gold Fields supports continued delivery of reliable earnings for the business.”
The Agnew site, located around 375km north of Kalgoorlie, is in the same geological region as the St Ives Gold Mine. Gold Fields acquired the Agnew mine in 2001.
The mine produces over 250,000 ounces of gold annually, with ore sourced from underground operations and processed through a carbon-in-pulp (CIP) plant.
Perenti Contract Mining president Gabrielle Iwanow said: “Barminco has successfully ramped up development and production at Agnew in recent years. We very much value the relationship with Gold Fields and we look forward to continuing to deliver safe and productive underground services through our highly capable team in Australia.”
Earlier this year, Barminco secured the first contract in the US, after it agreed to provide underground development and ground support services for the Goldrush project in Nevada.
