Angola expects the first phase of the rehabilitation of Quiminha hydroelectric dam, located in Angola`s northern Bengo province, to be completed within three months.
The first phase includes the installation of electromechanical equipment and spillway gates at a cost of US$664,000.
The rehabilitation work, costing nearly US$2.2M, will allow the operation of the reservoir to control floods as well as minimise water shortages during droughts.
The second phase of the rehab work, costing US$10M, will start next year and includes the installation of the power station.
Quiminha dam was conceived to regulate the Bengo river. It was constructed in the period between 1964 and 1975.
