Turkish firm Sanko has inaugurated the 320MW Yedigoze hydropower plant located on the Seyhan river in Turkey.
French engineering group Alstom supplied two 160MW Francis hydro turbines and two 175 MVA hydro generators, as well as all auxiliary equipment for the facility.
The power project is expected to generate sufficient electricity to power around 640,000 homes.
The facility is part of Sanko’s program to build additional renewable energy capacity, in line with the Turkish government’s push to improve the country’s energy security by increasing the share of renewable energy.
The government has called for the mobilization of local power generation to reduce Turkey’s dependence on imported fuels, which currently account for 60% of the country’s power generation.
