Hydrogen Induced Crack (HIC) Resistant Steel Plate

HIC resistant steel plates are available as ASTM/ASME A/SA 516 grades 60, 65, and 70. All material is certified to EN10204 3.2. Plates from stock or mill production are supplied from 6mm to 105mm thick, up to 4,000mm wide, and up to 14,000mm long.

The steel has the most refined chemistry with a carbon equivalent value of 0.41% maximum up to and including 50mm thick, sulphur of 0.001% maximum, and phosphorus of 0.008% maximum. The naturally low sulphur level avoids the need for Calcium treatment thereby avoiding the addition of extra unnecessary elements. The ultra low phosphorus levels provide enhanced in service resistance. The fully killed, vacuum degassed, fine grain practice production route with segregation mitigation during casting and deep deoxidisation to avoid inclusions ensure that this is one of the cleanest steels available in the world.

The HIC testing is in full accordance with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-2 and NACE MR 0103 and guarantees a crack length ratio (CLR) of 5% maximum, a crack thickness ratio (CTR) of 1.5% maximum, and a crack sensitivity ratio (CSR) of 0.5% maximum.
Plates are compatible with the requirements of Axens IN-43, EEMUA 179, ENI CAL501S, Petrobras N-1706, Saudi Aramco 01-SAMSS-016, Shell MESC 74/125, Shell DEP 31.22.10.32, and many more.

The most complex steel specifications are available immediately from stock for supply direct to project fabricators.
