New World Record in Natural Draft Cooling Tower for Hamon

The nuclear power plant is located at Dafan town, Tongshan County, Xianning city Hubei Province and will be among China’s first inland nuclear power plants. Those towers will break a world record being the largest natural draft cooling towers with a base diameter of 169m and a height of 209m.   Cooling tower

Hamon will be responsible for the civil, thermal and mechanical design that will be executed in partnership with CNPDC – China Nuclear Power Design Co.-, the design dept of CGNPC. Hamon will manufacture the components in their factory based in Jiaxing and install them on site. The towers will provide cooling to two units of 1,000MW each to be equipped with Westinghouse (Toshiba) AP1000 reactors.

All China’s nuclear power reactor projects to date have been located on the coast, employing seawater for cooling. For the inland power plant of Xianning, these outstanding cooling towers will operate on a closed circuit and will prevent from rejecting of large amounts of water from the power plant. They are also conceived to maximise power plant efficiency and will contribute in protecting the river wildlife by avoiding its warming up.

Hamon has been present in China since 2003 and is now operating from their offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Jianxing. The latter one is planned to move to the Nuclear City of Heijan. This manufacturing capacity allows Hamon to produce proprietary state of the art components for their Chinese and export customers.
