Jyrki Penttonen, CEO of Viola Systems, said that the strategy for the distribution companies in the smart networks is to divide them in small zones. In the event of a power fault, the effected zone is isolated from the other areas. Arctic Control provides a communication link between the centralized control room and monitoring and operating the medium voltage field devices.

Using Arctic Control, power is said to be restored by remotely monitoring and controlling the field devices in the electrical network.

Viola said that a secure communication is vital in proper implementation of a smart grid especially when it is concerning the medium voltage. Arctic Control has been designed to meet the availability and security needs of a distribution company. Retrofitting with the existing assets, connection with multiple switchgear and disconnectors are some of the features of Arctic Control.

Arctic Control has been tested in extreme field conditions and is deployed by some of the utilities in the Nordic area.
