Construcoes e Comercio Camargo has won a US$450M contract to construct the 660MW Porce III hydroelectric plant in Colombia.

The Brazilian construction company will head a consortium at Porce III, with the Colombian firms Conconcreto and Coninsa as partners. Work will start this month and should be completed in five years.

The total cost of the project is estimated at US$900M, of which US$200M will be financed by the Inter-American Development Bank, and the rest by the client, Empresas Publicas de Medellin.

One of the unusual aspects of Porce III will be the distance between the dam and the underground power station; they are separated by a 12km-long delivery tunnel.
