Toshiba has secured a contract from the Chugoku Electric Power, a company that generates and supplies electricity to the Chugoku region of Japan, to develop 3MW Fukuyama solar PV power project in Hiroshima prefecture.

The Fukuyama Solar Power Plant, which will use Toshiba’s systems, will have an annual electricity generating capacity of approximately 3.34 million kWh – enough to power approximately 900 households, when it comes online in fiscal year 2011.

Toshiba as the prime contractor for development of the plant will be responsible for all engineering work prior to the start of construction, procurement of major equipment and components, and plant construction.

The plant will be equipped with multi-crystal PV modules from Choshu Industry and use Toshiba’s integrated 500kW output power conditioners with a conversion efficiency of 98.1% to convert variable output of the PV cells into electricity, offsetting approximately 2,000 tons of CO2 emissions a year.

Toshiba Group aims to secure further contracts for multi-megawatt PV projects with the intention to expand business, both in Japan and overseas, by focusing on renewable energy and energy saving products and technologies.
