A combined hard-coal/biomass-fired power plant in the Netherlands has been proposed for development by Germanyís RWE.

The plant, with a gross output of 1,600 to 2,200 MW, would have a net efficiency rate of 46%, the company claims. The facility could come on stream in 2012 or 2013 if planning and implementation procedures proceed optimally and allow construction to commence in 2008.

Two possible locations are being considered near Rotterdam, the coastal towns of Maasvlakte or Eemshaven. The plant is estimated to cost around €1.5 billion.
