The Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) and M/s GVK Power (Goindwal Sahib) Limited (GVK Power) for buying power from 2x270 megawatts (MW) Thermal Power Project to be established at Goindwal Sahib (District Tarn Taran) by the company. Through the bidding procedure, the project was allotted to M/s GVK, Hyderabad. The project’s capital cost is projected as INR29.64 billion. The land required for the project has been acquired by the company.

The coal source for the project will be derived from captive mines located in a portion of Saregarha Block in Jharkhand and at Tokisud North sub-block Jharkhand.

The company has presented M/s BHEL the Boiler Turbine Generator (BTG) package and M/s Punj Lloyd Ltd. a Balance of Plant (BOP) package, for the supply of machinery for the project. M/s GVK and the Indian Railways have already entered into the Coal Transportation Agreement. Clearances have been attained from several authorities/departments including Airport Authority of India, Ministry of Environment & Forests and Chief of Staff Western Command.

PSEB chairman, Er. Harinder Singh Brar revealed that the project is likely to be commissioned in 3 years of financial closure by the company. The project’s yearly generation is likely to be 4,020 MUs. The construction activity at the site will begin soon.
