Petroleo Brasileiro S.A (Petrobras), a company engaged in the oil and gas exploration and marketing, both in Brazil and abroad, has found natural gas at well 1-BRSA-719-ESS on block ES M-414 in the Espirito Santo basin, offshore Brazil. The well is in about 74 meters (242.8 feet) of water and was drilled by Scorpion Offshore jackup Offshore Defender. Petrobras is the operator of the well with an 80% interest in ES M-414.
Repsol YPF Brasil and Companhia Vale do Rio Doce each have a 20% interest in the block. It is not yet known whether the discovery is commercial.
Companies drilling in Brazil are required to inform about the findings to the Agencia Nacional do Petroleo, Gas Natural e Biocombustiveis (ANP).
