Most of the funding would be spent on bringing onstream two 1000 megawatts (MW) units at its Kudankulam plant in Tamil Nadu and two 220 MW units each at Kaiga in Karnataka and in Rajasthan, J K Ghai added to his statement.

S K Jain chairman and managing director of NPCIL, said that “The nuclear power project at Kudankulam is almost at the stage of completion. The tariff of the electricity generated will be less than 2.50 paise.”

S K Jain continued that the company has produced around 4,000-4,500 units of power in 2008, at an average tariff of 2.33 paise. The state-run utility has an excess of INR120 billiion, which includes cash reserves. For the next 2-3 years, the company has sufficient cash reserves.
