Pakistani Prime Minister Shauket Aziz has announced that the country’s Bhasha dam will be renamed ‘Diamir-Bhasha’ dam.

The move comes after the long campaigning of the people of Diamir district to have the name of the 4500MW structure changed. On a visit to the project’s dam site, the Prime Minster also promised that those affected by Diamir-Bhasha would be compensated.

The dam should be completed in seven years at a cost of US$6.5B, and will have a storage capacity of 9Bm3.
