Kruger Energy, Inc. (Kruger Energy), a business unit of Kruger Inc., has received a contract from the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) to develop and construct 101.2 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Chatham-Kent. The company, selected by OPA through RES III request for proposals for renewable energy supply, will install 44 new wind turbines as part of Chatham wind project. This wind project is planned to start in 2011 and represents an investment estimated at $310 million.

Kruger Energy Port Alma L.P. (KEPA), an affiliate of Kruger Energy, had been selected in November 2005 to develop and construct a wind farm subsequent to the OPA’s RES II Request for Proposals. Like the energy produced by the KEPA Wind Farm, the energy produced by the Kruger Energy Chatham Wind Project will be sold to the OPA under a 20-year supply contract. It will power the equivalent of 25,000 households annually.

“This decision affirms that Kruger Energy can provide a high-quality, competitively priced project in Ontario and we are most pleased,” said Jacques Gauthier, senior vice president and chief operating officer, Kruger Energy. “We are proud to contribute to Ontario’s efforts to maximize the development of renewable energy, and we are especially delighted to work again with the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, which was an outstanding partner during the development of our first wind farm.”
