Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has announced the appointment of Hochtief as the main contractor for construction of the 100MW Glendoe hydroelectric scheme, to be located near Loch Ness in Scotland, UK.

The award of the £126M (US$221M) contract follows a competitive tendering process in accordance with the requirements of the European Procurement Directives. Work on the scheme, which is expected to take three years, is currently getting underway.

The Hochtief contract comprises the planning and turnkey operation of a 900m long dam, extensive subterranean construction, including the power house cavern, as well as 16km of tunnel work.
