Enterprise Rent-A-Car (ERAC), a car rental company, together with CODA Automotive, an electric car and battery company, has launched a planned program to introduce up to 100 electric CODA Sedans to car rental locations throughout 2011.

The five-seater CODA Sedan is powered by CODA’s 33.8kWh battery system giving the car a range of 90 to 120 miles per charge and also features a 6.6kW on-board charger that can provide a full charge in about six hours.

Enterprise, which has more than 5,000 offices located within 15 miles of 90% of the US population, has added the CODA EVs to its fleet as part of its commitment to reduce energy use and cost by 20% over the next five years while offering customers an opportunity for an ‘extended’ test drive.

The partnership follows a previously reached agreement between the two companies, under which Enterprise will provide courtesy transportation vehicles to CODA EV customers during service and maintenance periods.

CODA Automotive president and CEO Kevin Czinger said that the CODA’s dependable, all-season range are a perfect match for the driving conditions found throughout Enterprise’s neighborhood network of car rental locations.

“Enterprise has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability and is aligned with our mission to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles,” Czinger said.
