Defence lawyers representing senior executives of the infamous Enron Corp have concluded their arguments in the case, for which the prosecution alleges corruption and criminality.
The defence claims government prosecutors rewrote Enron history and bullied witnesses into supporting the case against former bosses Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling, former chairman and chief executive respectively.
Skilling, 52, faces 28 charges of fraud and conspiracy while is charged with six counts as a consequence, the prosecution alleges, of trying to hide $32 billion of debts while selling over priced stock in the company.
Both executives claim ignorance of the true state of the firm and could be sentenced to 30 years or more in jail if convicted.
