DTE Energy shut the plant to protect the generator. The stator is the stationary part of a rotor system in the generator. It is on the non-nuclear side of the plant.
The 1,173-MW Fermi station is situated in Newport in Monroe county around 30 miles (48 kilometers) southwest of Detroit. Fermi has several units at the station including Unit 2, which entered service in 1988, and four 12- and 13-MW oil-fired turbines (1966).
