Alfa Laval, a developer of products based on key technologies of heat transfer, separation and fluid handling, has secured a SEK250m contract to supply its decanter centrifuges for use in a wastewater treatment plant in Chicago.

The sewage treatment plant in Chicago that serves around 2.5 million people will use the Alfa Laval decanter centrifuges for thickening the sludge generated by the biological treatment process at the facility to produce processed water.

The delivery of the Alfa Laval decanter centrifuges, which are designed to reduce energy usage of up to 40% while increasing sludge capacity by 10%, is scheduled to be finalized during 2013.

Alfa Laval Group president and CEO Lars Renstrom said that the increasing environmental awareness is driving the interest for the company’s efficient waste water treatment systems.

“It is the largest order ever for Alfa Laval. This order shows our strong position in the water treatment market,” Renstrom said.
