Norwegian energy supplier Sira- Kvina kraftselskap DA has awarded the main contract for the upgrade of the control systems at its Tonstad and Solhom hydroelectric power stations to Voith Hydro AS. The contract scope includes upgrading and modernising electrical auxiliary systems as well as the control systems.
Norwegian energy supplier Sira- Kvina kraftselskap DA has awarded the main contract for the upgrade of the control systems at its Tonstad and Solhom hydroelectric power stations to Voith Hydro AS. The contract scope includes upgrading and modernising electrical auxiliary systems as well as the control systems.
Old relay control systems will be upgraded to state-of-the-art programmable logic controller (PLC) based ones.
The Tonstad power plant, grid connected in 1968, is Norway’s largest when it comes to average annual production (3800 GWh).
It therefore plays an important role in Norway’s energy supply. Commissioning of the upgraded systems will be done incrementally, starting in spring 2017 with auxiliary systems at Tonstad. The new control systems for Tonstad will then be commissioned progressively, from 2018 to 2022.
Work at Solhom will run partly in parallel, with auxiliary systems to be commissioned in 2019 and new control systems in 2020 and 2021. The Solhom power plant, with two Francis turbines, produces about 695 GWh per year.
