IWP&DC takes a look at the some of the latest equipment available in the hydro power and dam construction industry
A big crush
metso-minerals has expanded its Nordberg LT Series mobile crushing plant range with the launch of a new 60-70t class, high-capacity ‘S’ model for contract crushing and quarrying applications. Like the three other ‘S’ Series models, the track-mounted LT110S features a single-deck screen and an extended discharge conveyor. This combination allows the unit to produce two aggregate grades in a single stage crushing operation, or, to operate as a normal primary crusher with the screen removed. The longer conveyor also offers a larger stockpile capacity.
A heavy-duty Nordberg C110 jaw crusher provides a typical crushing capacity of 200 tph to 400 tph. The LT110S has been developed to combine high-efficiency with flexibility and ease of use. A robust high capacity 1300 x 4400mm grizzly feeder maximises the overall production through efficient removal of fines from the feed material, says the company. The new crushing plant also features a 5m3 capacity feed hopper with hydraulic folding walls and accepts a feed size of up to 670mm.
The proven ‘C’ Series jaw is able to crush the toughest rock and no compressive strength limitations are imposed, explains the company.
Changing the direction of screen rotation, gives the option of higher capacity operation or further improved screening efficiency for more difficult applications, such as wet material or where smaller fractions are required. Servicing the screen or replacing the mesh is done from ground level without the need for a crane.
Compactly built, the LT110S can be transported on a low-bed trailer and set up and operating within minutes of arriving on site.
According to Metso Minerals, the wide range of options available with the new crushing plant means an extensive variety of operating applications is possible including hard rock, sand and gravel and recycling.
The 7/20 single tool portable compressor, from Ingersoll Rand Portable Power, provides a free air delivery of 1.9m3/min at 7 bar, is suited to demolition work and can be coupled with vibration reduced breaking and demolition tools from the company.
The product has an optimised machine balance to minimise nose weight, and weighing less that 450kg, it has been designed to improve manoeuvrability on site. It comes with a pre-treated zinc phospate coated steel enclosure with powder coated paint finish, developed to resist the combined effects of corrosion and abrasion.
The smallest compressor in the Platinum series from Ingersoll-Rand, the 7/20 features a water-cooled engine, specifically designed for work on construction sites. Accessibility to internal components such as the engine has been optimised via a rear-hinged canopy on the compressor for easier servicing.
Other key technical features of the 7/20 compressor, says the company, include the environmental protection provided by a new drip proof base which reduces fluid spillage. In addition, the working life of the starter motor has been optimised through the use of glow plugs for improved cold weather starting, a start inhibitor and a self-bleeding fuel system.Tel: +44 208 723 0161
The Minewatch PC21 system has been designed by Davis Derby for use in mining control and monitoring applications. It has a range of intelligent modular units which can be used as stand alone independent control or monitoring units or connected together to form a cluster installed at the various locations around the application.
Each modular unit is connected via a standard 4 core cable to provide a fully integrated control and monitoring scheme. On multiple control schemes, the system can be configured so that it continues to operate even with the failure of an individual unit.
For extended control systems, remote Minewatch PC21 controllers can be connected up to 5km from the main cluster to provide a fully automated control package with the need for a surface SCADA system.
Applications for the Minewatch PC21 system include conveyor control, automatic conveyor loop take up control, face control and monitoring, main and standby pump and fan system and general environmental control and monitoring SCADA system.
Comprising seven new models with effective working
essures of 7-12 bar and free air deliveries (fad) rates of 1.9m3/min to 5.3m3/min, the Series Seven air compressors from Atlas Copco offer improved reliability, durability and serviceability.
The range introduces a 12 bar high pressure model with a free air delivery of 1.9m3/min. Designated the XAHS37, the 12 bar unit is ideally suited for applications with the latest generation of fibre optic cable installations.
A second model, the XATS67 provides a fad of 3.5m3/min at 10.3bar and has been designed for applications such as small sand blasting operations and renovation projects. Three models are also available with an integral 50Hz, single or three-phase generator with ratings of 6kW, 6.5kVA and 12kVA; providing electrical power for welding plant, lighting and power tools. The XAS47DdG and XAS67DdG can be operated for simultaneous use producing both electrical and air power. The XAS97DdG rated at 12kVA can be used in a non-simultaneous mode providing either air or electrical power.
All three models can be equipped with an automatic regulating system and have been designed for use by plant rental fleets, the construction industry and utility companies. According to the company, environmental features include a sealed spillage frame as an optional extra.
ON THE FASTTRACK
Bobcat Company has announced the introduction of the new ZHS series compact hydraulic excavators – The Bobcat 430 and 435 models – the first to feature the FastTrack drive system and zero house swing (ZHS).
‘This system works like the drive system on a skid-steer loader,’ explains Tom Connor, Bobcat excavator product specialist. ‘It splits the power infinitely between the right and left tracks, resulting in more torque, precise manoeuvering and smooth acceleration.’
Equipped with separate piston pumps and high torque drive motors to power the left and right tracks, the FastTrack system has been designed to replace the conventional hydraulic drive system. According to the company, this feature provides better torque control for dozing, smoother turns under a load and more gradual turns on surfaces like asphalt and concrete.
The Bobcat ZHS series excavators feature improved dual blade cylinders mounted on each side of the backfill blade. This design reduces the amount of dirt and debris that can build up on the top of the blade structure, says the company. The arm on the Bobcat ZHS compact excavator has also been redesigned. Hydraulic hoses are now routed within the width of the arm to improve protection from snagging and other damage.
Standard features on the ZHS series compact excavators include dozer blade with float feature, four-post TOPS/ROPS canopy, high-back suspension seat, and X-Change attachment mounting system. Operators also have the option of adding a cab with heat and air conditioning, keyless start security system, and steel tracks.
