As part of a recently awarded service and supply contract with Belgian utility Electrabel, Dutry Power, the local agent for Cummins Power Generation, is supplying gensets to maintain power supplies to customers during maintenance periods.

A recent example was the three Monza gensets installed alongside disconnected transformers in the village of Wontergem, near Deinze. They supplied power to domestic customers within a 3 km radius, while Electrabel engineers renewed high voltage cables, isolators and switchgear.

Last year, Dutry Power also introduced a ‘no break’ system, to synchronize gensets and eliminate the brief power cuts that might otherwise occur when they are connected. The system is used in areas where interruptions would not be permissible, such as computer applications and for sets rated at over 250 kVA.

On synchronising to the mains, the load is transferred to the genset and the transformer is disconnected to provide a ‘no break’ supply. On return to the mains, the set is resynchronized with the reconnected transformer, and then synchronized with its supply, before disconnecting the set.
