Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has won an order to supply the main plant package for the Rihand thermal power project in Uttar Pradesh. The Contract for the two 500 MW units, valued at Rs20 790 million, was placed by India’s National Thermal Power Corp following an international competitive bidding procedure. The work is due to be completed by the middle of 2005.
Under the terms of BHEL’s contract the company will design, engineer, manufacture, supply, erect, test and commission two steam generator and turbine generator sets along with associated auxiliaries and control and instrumentation. The first unit is due to be commissioned in 42 months, with the second following six months later. With the two new units in place, Rihand will have an aggregate generating capacity of 2000 MW.
