Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding together with their Danish subsidiary, contractor Burmeister & Wain and the local partner, Technical Union SA, are to install a new 85 MW two-stroke, low speed diesel power plant at Atherinolakos on the island of Crete. Their contract is with the Public Power Corporation of Greece. The plant will be powered by two 10K90MC-S diesel engines, each developing 45 MW. The same type of engine was supplied by the same group of companies to the Guam Piti power plant in 1998. The first order for two-stroke, low speed stationary diesel engines of MAN B&W design from Greece was signed by PPC in 1996 in connection with their plant on the island of Kos, which is based on three 7K60MC-S engines. This latest order not only reflects the excellent performance of the Kos plant, but also that of more than 500 MC engines supplied to the Greek marine propulsion market over the years.
