UK manufacturer Lister Petter has introduced a new series of genset engines for prime power in high temperature applications and a new system to enable its engines to run continuously for up to 2000 hours between scheduled services.

The new Sigma series of naturally aspirated water cooled engines is available in 18-34 kW ratings and is designed for continuous operation in ambient temperatures up to 50 °C. With service intervals of 250 hours the range features direct injection, mechanical governing and what its makers call ‘designed-in durability’.

The new Long Run system is available for LLD and HSL water and air cooled gensets. It works by increasing the capacity and filtration of the engine oil to avoid the need for frequent servicing visits, a cost saver aimed mainly at owners of units installed in remote or inaccessible locations such as mobile phone base stations. Based on 8-hours-a-day duty, this can mean visits at intervals of 250 days. Because it is designed as an engine characteristic, not dependent on oil system top-up, the operating temperature and oil degradation are both reduced, promoting longer engine life.
