What makes multi screw pumps so attractive?

What is particularly important in the oil sector however – even more important than efficiency – is the flexibility that displacement pumps provide when it comes to the viscosity of the medium. Whilst centrifugal pumps have fixed operating points and their efficiency drops rapidly as viscosity increases, NOTOS® multi screw pumps also operate with excellent rates of efficiency across the entire range of viscosity up to 50,000 cSt, as they operate on the principle of displacement. The pumping principle is based on the interaction between the screws and the housing to form chambers, which continuously convey the medium at stable pressure from the suction to the discharge side, almost entirely independent of consistency or viscosity. The flow rate is determined by the rotational speed, the screw diameter and the thread pitch. It is therefore directly proportional to the speed which can be flexibly adjusted.

Robust rotary lobe pump design enables a six times higher service life of pumps handling abrasive ceramic slip

Until 2013, a German ceramics manufacturer used a progressing cavity pump for filling and recirculation of the storage tanks for grog and ceramic slip. The wear parts of this pump, however, had to be replaced every three months due to the highly viscous and abrasive substance. To minimise service times and enable more economical production, NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH from Waldkraiburg/Germany suggested replacing the unit with a special rotary lobe pump from the TORNADO® T2 range. The T.Proc® is specially designed for a long service life with minimum wear, so that it can also convey highly abrasive compounds without problems. This is made possible by the combination of the operating principle and a special material pairing, which is only offered by NETZSCH: instead of conventional elastomer lobes in a metal housing, this pump comprises two steel lobes rotating in a replaceable rubber housing insert. This achieves a higher durability of the moving components because steel is less susceptible to material fatigue from dynamic forces than plastic elastomer. In addition, the interior is designed without dead space so no slip residue can adhere. Due to the clearly reduced wear and the longer service life of 1 and 1.5 years, respectively, the ceramics manufacturer has now changed over its entire production to the TORNADO T.Proc®.

No wear thanks to reversal of material: Robust rotary lobe pumps designed for a significantly longer service life when using media with crystallizing MAP

Until early 2013, a conventional rotary lobe pump was used to pump centrate into the aeration tank of a wastewater treatment plant. However, significant signs of wear appeared quickly, particularly on the elastomer lobes, due to the high con-tent of magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) in the water. The unit required frequent maintenance. For this reason, the decision makers decided to replace the pump with a more robust and reliable model. They chose TORNADO® T2 T.Envi® rotary lobe pump by NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH from Waldkraiburg. It is specially tailored to the requirements on site, and thus guar-antees maximum operational safety. Wear could be minimized due to the reversal of material, typical of each particular model series, where metal lobes rotate in elastomer housing. This sets the T2 apart from rotary lobe pumps made by other manufacturers.

NETZSCH expands its range: The xLC® stator adjustment unit triples service life of the pump

Another component was added to the product portfolio of the NEMO® progress-ing cavity pump from NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH in Waldkraiburg: the xLC® unit. This triples the service life of the pump, particularly when conveying difficult, abrasive media. The xLC® unit is an essential part of this. When wear occurs in the rotor-stator system, this new unit allows the performance of the pump to be re-established by adjusting the preload between the conveyor ele-ments.

Pump technology for maritime applications: Displacement pumps designed for universal use ensure reliable, smooth conveyance of a very wide range of media

NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH has developed four different product lines, which can be universally applied as transfer and booster pumps on ships and shipyards, as well as on offshore platforms – from fuel or sludge transport, through loading and unloading, to stripping. NEMO® progressing cavity pumps, which cope particularly well with highly viscous media thanks to their special conveying principle, are therefore suitable for oil sludge or wastewater. The more compact TORNADO® rotary lobe pumps, which enable a higher flow rate, are used to transfer wastewater, as well as to load and unload various media. On the other hand, NOTOS® screw pumps, are ideal for transporting lubricant oil, fuel and chemicals. NETZSCH Pumpen & Systeme GmbH experts in solutions designed specifically for difficult pumping applications, announces the new N.Mac™ Twin Shaft Grinder, de-signed to protect pumps and processes.
